Thai Producer Tan-Khun Organic Farm Receives Two Farm Animal Welfare Awards

Bangkok, 6 November 2026 – On 4 November, Compassion in World Farming celebrated its 2026 Farm Animal Welfare Awards (FAWA) at a ceremony in Brussels, recognising 44 winners from around the world for their leadership in driving higher animal welfare standards, pioneering nature-friendly farming practices and helping build a more resilient food system. Thailand’s Tan-Khun Organic Farm received two awards: a Higher Welfare Award (Chickens) and a Farming Transition Award.

Since its launch in 2007, Compassion’s awards programme has helped drive changes that are set to benefit over 1.6 billion animals each year. The 2026 Farm Animal Welfare Awards celebrated cage-free pioneers and other animal welfare leaders, recognising businesses driving positive change in Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, Australia, and China, as well as Europe.

◼️ Farm Animal Welfare Awards
Compassion in World Farming’s Farm Animal Welfare Awards recognise companies demonstrating leadership in improving farm animal welfare and supporting a transition towards higher-welfare food and farming systems. More than 1,000 awards have been presented globally, recognising companies such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, Compass Group and IKEA.

Thailand has a history of recognition through Compassion’s awards programme. Hilltribe Organics received the country’s first Good Egg Award in 2014, while several Thai producers, were recognised in 2024 for their progress on farm animal welfare.

◼️Higher Welfare (Chickens) and Farming Transition Award

Thai organic social enterprise, Tan-Khun Organic Farm was awarded a Higher Welfare Award (Chickens) for producing the indigenous slow-growing Tapaotong chicken, reared for a minimum of 120 days at a low stocking density of around 15 kg/m². Birds have natural daylight, outdoor access, deep litter and perches. The company also received a Farming Transition Award, recognising its transformation  from a conventional rice farm into a diverse, closed-loop, regenerative, organic farming operation. Through its integrated Farm, Feed and Food business units, it produces poultry, livestock, crops and organic feed while supporting around 100 farming families, demonstrating a holistic approach built on the belief that healthy soil, healthy animals and healthy communities are intrinsically linked.

Amnart Reansoi, founder and farmer at Tan-Khun Organic Farm said: “Healthy soil, healthy animals, healthy people, and healthy communities are inseparable, and this must be reflected in our farming systems. At Tan-Khun Organic farm, animal welfare is key and we are also committed to social enterprise values: farming can generate both ecological and community benefit as primary outcomes, not just afterthoughts.”

Thailand’s progress on animal welfare has developed over time with Tan-Khun Organic Farm receiving a Good Egg Award and Klong Phai Farm receiving both a Good Egg Award and a Good Turkey Award in 2024. KPS Farm also received Thailand’s first Sow Stall Free Award.

Other winners included Japanese egg producers Daily Farm and Zao Farm, and Brazilian egg producers Sunny Eggs and Korin, all of which received Cage Free Awards (Laying Hens). COMO Hotels and Resorts was also recognised with a Higher Welfare Award (Chickens) for its higher welfare sourcing commitments across Australia, the UK and Europe. Other Awards celebrated leadership in nature-friendly farming, plant-based food production and marketing, as well as initiatives advancing animal welfare and more sustainable food production. A full list of winners is included in the Notes to Editors.

Dr Tracey Jones, Global Director for Food Business, Compassion in World Farming concluded: “It was inspiring to celebrate award winners from so many countries, recognising companies that are raising the bar for animal welfare, driving innovation, engaging consumers and helping build more nature-friendly farming systems.

Many of this year’s winners are leading the transition towards cage-free systems, showing what can be achieved when businesses turn ambition into action. Their progress gives us real cause for optimism, demonstrating that meaningful change for animals is already happening around the world.”

Together, the Farm Animal Welfare Awards and the welfare commitments secured by Compassion are set to improve the lives of more than 3.47 billion animals every year, demonstrating the extraordinary impact that committed businesses can have in driving positive change for animals worldwide.
